Mentor Teacher Program: Loree Robinson

Loree Robinson

My name is Loree Robinson. I began my career in Early Childhood Education in the early 1980’s. I was a single mother of an energetic two year old. I wanted a career that would allow me to develop my own parenting skills.

I enrolled at Pasadena City College and I completed all course work in 1988. I graduated with my AA in Early Childhood Education. Working part time at Hastings Ranch Parent Participation Nursery school. I continued my studies at the University of La Vern and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development in 1996. I completed classes through UCLA extension program.

I had the opportunity to be a site supervisor in the school age program for the Options Agency and later became a teacher in the Early Childhood Program. For the last 12 years I have been employed as a lead teacher with Palmdale School District Head Start Program.

This is my second year in the California Early Childhood Mentor Teacher Program. Being a mentor gives me wonderful educational opportunities to enhance my knowledge in current policies and in instructions in early childhood education. As an early childhood educator I believe children are unique and talented in their own way. By providing meaningful opportunities for children to explore, discover, develop a sense of self-worth through achievement, and to develop an understanding of both academics and the arts is a wonderful way to watch them develop and grow. Children need social interaction with others and to experience the fun of learning. It is important to create a multicultural environment with the children and families which will make for a positive school experience. The partnership between home and school gives children every opportunity for success in their continuing education.
