What is Articulation?
Articulation is the process of determining whether a course or group of courses offered at Antelope Valley College (AVC) is equivalent or comparable to a corresponding course or group of courses at another institution.
What is an Articulation Agreement?
An articulation agreement is, most commonly, an agreement between Antelope Valley College and a college or university which specifies which Antelope Valley College courses may be transferred to meet general education, major or elective requirements. Antelope Valley College has a number of articulation agreements with California State University (CSU), University of California (UC) and private institutions in California as well as out of state. These agreements may be found in the Counseling Office and the Transfer Center. These agreements will facilitate the successful transfer of Antelope Valley College students to baccalaureate level colleges and universities.
What are the different types of Articulation Agreements?
Course to Course Agreements
These agreements specify equivalent courses at AVC and other educational institutions.
Transfer Course Agreements
These are agreements which specify the transferability of AVC courses to particular universities.
* UC transferable courses are also listed in the AVC Catalog and Schedule of Classes with a “UC” designation after the course description.
* CSU transferable courses are listed in the AVC Catalog and Schedule of Classes with a “CSU” designation after the course description. As a general rule, all courses numbered 100 or higher transfer to the CSU system.
General Education Agreements
These are agreements which specify those courses that a student can complete at AVC to satisfy the Lower Division (Freshman and Sophomore level) general education requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree at a specific transfer institution. Examples of these agreements are:
* The California State University General Education Breath Requirements (Certification).
* The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) for the University of California and the California State University Systems.
* Agreements with some private (USC) and out-of-state universities as well.
Major Preparation
These agreements specify the Lower Division (Freshman and Sophomore level) courses required for the major at the transfer institution.
If AVC does not have an Articulation Agreement with my transfer university, how may I determine the correct classes to take at AVC?
If you wish to transfer to a university with whom AVC does not have an agreement, you may obtain preliminary information about that university’s requirements from their catalog and/or their web page. The AVC Transfer Center can assist you in locating this information. Then make an appointment with a counselor to obtain advisement about how to best meet these requirements at AVC.
