The welding program features preparation for the Los Angeles City welding certification. Students can learn welding for personal or career use. Courses include instruction in oxyacetylene welding, arc welding, inert gas welding, welding layout and blueprint reading.

According to the US Department of Labor, California has the second most welding jobs in the nation, with the greater Los Angeles area boasting one of the highest concentrations of welding jobs in the country!
At AVC, welding students get cutting-edge training in industry-standard techniques such as oxyacetylene welding (used in pipe construction and repair work), gas tungsten arc welding (used in the automotive and aerospace industries), and structural welding (used in the construction industry), which can lead to a structural welding certification from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.
In all cases, students master how to read and interpret blueprints and architectural drawings, a vital skill for nearly every aspect of construction and manufacturing. And, whether they’re earning a full AA degree or launching their careers quickly with a 24-unit certificate, students get the expert preparation they need to earn the LA City Welder Certification.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate proper techniques for repairing, fabricating, or cutting metal components or structures using gas welding processes.

- Inspect and evaluate welds to assure that they meet industry standards.
- Analyze and evaluate the welding area to assure safe work practices, proper equipment usage, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
