What is Wildland Fire Academy?
Wildland Fire Academy is an aggressive 6-week course. The wildland fire program focuses on real hands-on training and physical fitness and more, needed to manage controlled burns, implement fuels planning, work with fire suppression tactics and more.
The Wildland Fire Academy will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills to obtain an entry-level position as a temporary, on-call wildland firefighter. Upon successful completion of the academy, the National Wildfire Coordinating Group will award you a certificate. Approximately half of your training will be in the classroom and half in practical training application.
Top performing students may be given the opportunity to join the Antelope Valley College, Type-II Wildland Fire Hand Crew sponsored by the Inyo National Forest.
